4.7.5 hangs opening .NFOs

    I'm running N++ 4.7.5 under XP/SP2, and it hangs when I attempt to open any .NFO file (the iNFO files that come in downloaded stuff). This is completely reproducible on my system as follows.

    1. Right click on my desktop, select New/Text Document. I've now got a zero-length NEW DOCUMENT.TXT.
    2. Right click on NEW DOCUMENT.TXT and select "Edit with Notepad++".

    N++ opens the document no problem.

    3. Rename NEW DOCUMENT.TXT to NEW DOCUMENT.NFO.
    4. Right click, "Edit with Notepad++".

    Now N++ hangs while trying to open the file with its screen half-drawn. Task Manager shows CPU near 100% near with N++ chewing up 70-90% of the cycles.

    5. Rename back to NEW DOCUMENT.TXT.
    6. Right click, "Edit with Notepad++"

    Again, N++ pops right up.

    Note this doesn't happen just with zero-length files, but any .NFO I try. Rename the .NFO to .TXT and N++ has no problem opening it.

    Can anyone else reproduce this?

      Thanks. Should have mentioned, I'd already done that. There are several threads on the issue, but I didn't find a fix (if I missed it I apologize). The only suggested fixes I could find (one involved installing LINEDRAW.TTF, the other uninstalling N++, de-registering some DLLs, cleaning out the registry, then reinstalling) I've already tried. No joy.

        Or use simple Notepad...

        Perhaps you should re-read the following threads on the Help forum.

        Did you try anything mentioned there?

        I assume you do not need to edit the file but only want to read it.
        Otherwise, make a copy, rename it to .txt, edit it, rename it back to .nfo.

      Try a search for "NFO".
