I just found that Ctrl-Shift-I will insert a literal tab, while the TAB key inserts 4 spaces (as I have deliberately set it to do)! 99% of the time, I want a 4 space indent/outdent. But that 1% of the time when I need a literal tab for a here-document, makefile, Solaris syslog.conf, etc., it's a pain to have to go copy&paste one from someplace else. Ctrl-Shift-I to the rescue!
In case it matters I'm using a pretty stock v4.7.5, though with few TextFX Viz settings.

Has NP++ the ability to change the behaviour of the TAB key, depending on the language selected?
For example, when pressing the TAB key in a .c or .cpp file, it inserts 4 spaces, but when pressing the TAB key in a makefile, it inserts a real tab.
Is that possible with NP++?
