I have no problem doing this - I think the problem is somewhere on your system. Have you configured windows to show known extensions? (not saying this is the problem, just that it tends to affect these kind of things AND what you think they have as an extension after saving the file.

I've define a language and it's extension like .xyz
when i want to save the file : fname.xyz
the .xyz extention is not in the list.
and if i chose (*.*) and the name name.xyz the file is saved with the name : "fname."

how do you save your file with a user define extension ? none do that ?
