Vista - N++ 4.7.1 - select "xp sp2 compatibility" in exe properties.
Open N++ - Settings - Preferences - !CRASH!

  No problems without compatibility set. !Crash! is not good irrespective of the best way to use software.

  What problems do you get when not running it in compatibility mode? I'm just curious because I use N++ daily in Vista (without any compatibility set) and have had as smooth an experience as when running it under other versions of Windows.
