On my pc at home I create a new file, ctrl+s, the file type in the drop down box is All Types *.*, type the filename in and the extension I want it to be, and im done. At work, I create a new file, ctrl+s, the default file type is Normal Text (*.txt), I click All Types manually and proceed to name my file something.tpl for example. The dialog closes, my file is saved as something.txt instead.
I found the preference for default file type in Settings -> Preferences -> New Document -> Default Language. But all types isn't selectable. I have the latest version of notepad++, is it because I might have an older version at home? Am I missing a setting somewhere? This is driving me nuts.

Now I'm even more mad. I downloaded the smarty user defined language file. Set Smarty as my default file type, I hit save and the default file type in the box says All Types (*.*). So I name it something.tpl. Close the dialog window only to see that its been named something.txt. If I save something and dont specify an extension (eg "smarty") then it gets named with no ext. w.t.f.
