I think it's really amazing that there now is Ubuntu support for HPG3010. I've been waiting for this for a long time. Everything seems to work great, apart from the slide scanning function. Any ideas how to make this operational? (The SANE page talks about functionality as "basic" and I guess that doesn't include the slide scanner). Unfortunately the slide scanner was the original reason I bought this product.
Still, I can scan other things in the meanwhile and I'm very happy.

Thank you for your post. Slide/negative supporting is available during several months. Your message told me that something was going wrong in current version of hp3900-series and I didn't realize because I don't use to make negative scans. I've located and fixed the error (which was introduced in revision 136, Sun Sep 2 13:34:50 2007 UTC in hp3900_rts8822.c file due to important improvements in source code). I've updated code in sourceforge's SVN server and in SANE CVS tree.
I consider this bug as serious. So I'm releasing a new version (0.11) in few hours. After updating you should be able to make slide/negative scans.
