But the column-mode in UltraEdit is more powerful.
When I activated the column-mode in ultraEdit it is also possible to add the same text for all Columns
Example:
In the file I have a lot of lines with numbers and want to add the same text before (or after) all lines
123
234
...
The Result:
00123
00234
I hope that the developes of notepad++ improve the column-mode in notepad++.
This feature is the only reason why I use ultraEdit.

A lot of forums deal with this issue by posting the FAQ to the forum once a week. No excuses for not knowing about it then.
A help system would be nice. The current documentation is a bit scattered. I think most people looking for a column mode would look in the help if it existed.

Yes. Alt + left Mouse works to select a column.

I'm with you - column mode is the only reason I bring up UltraEdit over Notepad++
This also works (in a somewhat weird way):
you have:
123
456
now change to:
00123
456
and mark (with alt-key) the two 00 and down to the line below
then choose plugins/TextFX Edit/fill down insert - and voilá.

Yes. Alt-Shift-Arrow keys or Alt + left mouse click
For the record, help about column editing is available (http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/notepad-plus/index.php?title=Column_Editing). I'll dare to say that globally this online doc is exhaustive.
