In good ole notepad, I get a scratch pad instantly when I click on the notepad icon (opens with a default empty text document). The annoying thing is having 27 of these instances by lunchtime.
I like the way notepad++ reuses the same window, but when I click on my shortcut, I'd like it to open a fresh tab for me. Is there an easy way to do that?

Not according to http://notepad-plus.wiki.sourceforge.net/Command+Line+Switches . The best you could do would be to cause it to open up in a new instance, but that's what you hated about notepad.
