Does notepad++ supports scripting?

    Hi,

    I have an html file which does not validate xhtml. I would like to make it validate xhtml, and I know what to do, several find and replace stuff.

    But doing this everytime I have this file updated is a mess... Notepad++ macro system does not allow for this kind of stuff, so I wonder if notepad++ supports scripting, as doing an extension for that is a bit hard for me, I'm not a C programmer.

    If not I'll have to use pspad, but I prefer notepad++.

    Thanks

      As far as I know, notepad++ does not support scripting other than using Macros.  However, if you're patient, I'm about to dive into plugin development, and the first thing I plan to do is create a simple scripting engine.  With a little luck, I should have something working in a couple of weeks.  It will be pretty primitive; no loops, branching, variables, or nested functions.  There will be about a dozen functions for processing text, including Find-and-Replace (Yes, I plan to include the ever-popular \r\n).  It will have the ability to save and load scripts from files, and let you internally maintain a group of your favorite scripts so you can just select them from a list.

      Is that the kind of thing you're looking for?  I don't use pspad, so I don't know what its scripting is like.

        If I do understand you, you'll create a new script language, right?
        If so, it's interesting. Let me know if you need some help.

          Yes, it will be a new script language, although like I mentioned, it will be very primitive.  It won't have any of the features that would make it a real scripting language, like Python or Perl for instance.  All it will do is allow you to write a series of functions with parameters that will process the entire document or just what you have highlighted.  It will execute the functions one at a time on the text and export the finished product back out to the document.

          I'll start a new thread on the Plugin Development forum as soon as I get my plans a little more concrete so that I can get some input on what functions people would like.
