Does anyone know that can the use Ctrl-PgUp and Ctrl-PgDown to switch among tabs instead of Ctrl-Tab and Ctrl-Shift-Tab?
I think Ctrl-PgUp and Ctrl-PgDown is much more convenient than the normal method (Ctrl-Shift-Tab) which require holding down another one more key (Shift) to switch back.
Thanks!

Really, there are people that HATE tabs like the pest. It's just returning to the old MDI interface, and complicates the interface. Multiple windows (one separate per document) are much easier for many uses. Don't forget that there's a icon bar that can play the same role as the "kludgy" tabs that just take precious space on screen.
So please provide a preference to disable ALL tabs, and use separate windows instead.

I'm sure there are, but there are probably more who love them. Tabs are a principal feature of Notepad++, but there's nothing stopping you from using the -multiInst parameter to open every file in a new session. Perhaps a little work with regedit could make that the default for you. If you work it out, perhaps you could post a FAQ about it on the Wiki, then anyone who wants to do it can do so.

Note that with separate windows, you could more easily support contextual menus where unncessary items (such as those not suited for the currently selected language) are simply removed (not shown).
The current design of menus is too much complicate to navigate with too many items that are not even applicable to the current text.

It amazes me this feature request has been around for so long without a solution...
As with kmansiu, I cannot get appropriate behaviour from Ctrl PgUp/PgDn. In Firefox and many other programs, it allows linear scrolling through the list of tabs as follows:
Tab windows
1,2,3,4,5,6 etc.
Ctrl PgDn should ALWAYS move from the current tab forwards, and wrap when it gets to the last tab. Eg: Current Tab=4, 2xCtrlPgDn takes you to Tab6.
Ctrl PgUp should ALWAYS move from the current tab backwards, and wrap when it gets to the first tab. Eg: Current Tab=6, 2xCtrlPgUp takes you to Tab4.
Try doing both these steps one after the other in Notepad++ (using Ctrl-Tab if you haven't made the substitution) and you'll see it does not work the same way.
The functionality provided by Ctrl-Tab/Shift-Ctrl-Tab ala Windows Task Switching is great, but I always end up confused when I'm working over 3 or 4 tabs. Also, I'd like to be able to use both methods, so I vote for a new feature. If you actually CAN what I'm looking for, please let me know!

Jason

I recently had a look at the NP++ code with a view to adding some commands. I also wanted to have them unmapped by default, since they were basically an alternative to existing commands. Unfortunately the way the commands are implemented right now seems to make this impossible. From what I could see every command has to have a menu entry, which is not really what you want when you have alternative forms of the same command.
I'd love to be proved wrong about this though :)

Your efforts to achieve what you want are too complicated. Simply use another editor and stop overflowing the forum.
in the menu
Settings
|- Shortcut Mapper...
replace in the line 29: CTRL + SHIFT + TAB by CTRL + PAGE DOWN
replace in the line 30: CTRL + TAB by CTRL + PAGE UP
Thanks Salocin,
Tried and modified.
Here is my experience:
It cannot keep switching tabs while holding down the ctrl key with consecutively pressing the PageUp / PageDn button.
Can any way to serve the same purpose? Or, need NPP author to change it from program source level?

heh... or supply the patch.
Personally I think we should stick to CTRL-TAB as it is standard in other programs. IE Firefox uses the same method.
I suggest you read the forum and shut up instead of complaining that something "takes SO long".
Hi!
I also agree hope to see Ctrl-PgUp and Ctrl-PgDn implemented the same as how it works in FireFox.
At least implement the action of cycling left/right of opened tabs, then we can map the keys ourselves.
Thank you!
Chanon
