Word count is one of the features I will be using most in Notepad++. Can you tell me how to assign a shortcut key to this function? The shortcut mapper is baffling: how am I supposed to know what to type in the text box for a name, to map the function?
Thanks, pshute, for the thread link. However, I discovered yesterday that the info at the bottom of the window includes a count of the nuber of characters in a selection. That's kind of enough for me, and though I would have preferred a shortcut, it will do.
If you would like to refer to this comment somewhere else in this project, copy and paste the following link:
Does notepad++ have either of these or did I just quickly scroll through the things that it can do too fast?

I have tried creating a macro using
start recording - selecting text - choosing TextFX/TextFX Tools/Word Count - stop recording
but the macro doesn't seem to record and I can't play it back.
Any suggestions?
Zoe
I know that both these things were once impossible, but I'm not sure it that's changed with recent versions. You might want to read and continue this thread about it:

Yes, try TextFX/TextFX Tools/Word Count.
