few problems with notepad

    I just installed latest notepad++

One problem is when highlighting a bunch of lines in a text file, it scrolls way too fast that I always pass the last line I want highlighted. This is not the case with various other text editors nor my MS mouse settings.

Second, I installed the explorer plugin and it works, except it just does not show actual files per directory/sub-directories even though the filter shows *.*

    What am I missing?

I am having an issue with Npp and Win Vista.... is it just being buggy because it is vista or I am doing something wrong here?

I was having a problem with ver 4.1 or NPP with it crashing on exit and on load it said that xml was screwed up??? I don't remember having these issues in xp with Npp.

      Help, any one?

Also, even though my settings shows as "normal text" type, I always have to type in the filename followed by .txt extension when saving.  Any way around this?

This seems to be a problem that a lot of people are complaining about.  See my recent post at https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4398040 for some discussion, though one poster suggests that this vital feature suggestion is something that has been discussed before and will simply be ignored. :-(

I'd be interested to hear the opinion of a developer on this - is it genuinely a WONTFIX?

My response to this problem was:

Fine ideas all. Great reasoning, but you will not get any response or resolution of this issue. They are stonewalling it for some unknown reason. They will not even say "yes" this is a good idea or "no" it is not a good idea. I have tried three times to suggest an even more simplified solution to this "bug". They told me I was "whining". Ever other program I have can provide this functionality. Why can't Notepad++? Maybe this will spur them on to accomplish littler things that are meaningful. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a response or resolution. Good Luck!

Now, Bob, that's not fair.  Notepad++ is a FREE program, done in the main by a single developer on his spare time.  It's open source; if you want a feature, you can put it in yourself by downloading the source and compiling it with your desired changes.

What you are calling a bug is not a bug to me.  In fact, I prefer it the way it is.  I recognize that not everyone holds the same opinion, so it would be nice to have a choice.

However, we can see how serious this request is.  Go here:

"A fair pledge system for both dev and users"
            http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?thread_id=1793153&forum_id=331753

Start something going.  If enough commit enough to warrant the effort, why, it just might happen.  --Joel

This seems to be fixed now in 4.4!  Thanks a lot to whoever added that much requested functionality.  It takes Notepad++ one step nearer to perfection (and from my point of view, there's not a huge number of steps to go...) :-)

PS - Someone might want to update the micro-pledge page.

I want to thank whomever implemented the Save as functionality to Npp. It is a huge step forward to a great editor.

On some, maybe all, systems, when you first start the Explorer plugin, the middle panel showing the file names (the panel below the folder panel and above the Filter panel) is very thin in height -- so much so, that you might not even recognize that it's a separate panel.  Move the mouse cursor to the border between the folder & filter panels until you see the resize cursor, then drag it up to see the file names.

      Regards.

I want to thank whomever added the functionality to the Save as Save dialog. It makes Npp a great editor.
