Sorting using Text FX and empty lines

How come I get empty lines between lines that are really the same, after sorting my text lines?
Is this because there were empty lines at the same positions before sorting?
There are a number of Text FX functions that seem to not work (correctly) with empty lines, or (on) the first line if it is empty, or remove the last line if it is empty.
