i'm no programmer and need a step by step instructuion to install and use spell check.
i installed Aspell-0-50-3-3-Setup then downloaded ispell-enwl-3.1.20 dictionary files but now i am lost as to how to input dictionary files into spell check and how to properly install aspell. ultimately i hope to use the spell check plugin.
any help would be appreciated :)

aha! that was what i was missing. i didn't notice the dictionary installer. i ran the installer found at http://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/aspell/w32/Aspell-en-0.50-2-3.exe and spell checker works fine. thanks :)
one final question. above you mentioned relative path for USB, is the path relative to the SpellChecker.dll?

and to answer your question regarding Linux. No i am not using Linux. i would like to, and have installed it many times, but i find that it has too high a learning curve for me. I mentioned it above because installing the dictionary felt similar to me at the time, i did not know enough to know what was wrong and even less about fixing the problem. Everything in Linux seems that way to me. It seems that in order to optimally configure the most basic GNU/Linux settings and/or programs i need to consult a book and several websites before i am able to do anything productive. generally, i don't have time to spend hours trying to do with Linux, what i am already able to do with windows.
i guess if i don't pay closer attention neither OS will work well;)

      anyway, Thanks again.

You only need to install both, Aspell and one of the dictonaries for windows. There is no need to copy, only to install and to have fun with it.

ok...i ran aspell installer and installed aspell to"C:\Program Files\Aspell" which puts "C:\Program Files\Aspell\bin\aspell-15.dll" when i try to use spell check i get message that "GNU Aspell and/or dictionaries are missing.
        Download Installation files here:
        http://aspell.net/win32/
If Aspell is already installed, do correction of relative path to aspell-15.dll and restart" with the input blank "..\Aspell\bin"
spell checker plugin is in "C:\Program Files\Notepad++\plugins\SpellChecker.dll"

what is the relative path to the .dll?

        i tried copying the aspell-15.dll to "C:\Program Files\Notepad++\plugins\Aspell\bin"
and restarted notepad++ and machine and still get the same message.

dowloaded dictionary file from "http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/wordlist/ispell-enwl-3.1.20.zip" where do i extract the file to? i tried extracting files to "C:\Program Files\Aspell\data" but spell checker displays above message yet again.

apparently i'm still not doing something correctly but i don't know enough to begin to fix it futher.

        sorry i'm so dense :(

(problems like this keep me from moving to Linux, where every gnu package seems to operate in a similar piece-meal, console-based nightmare)

        help please

      Hello,

at first: Did you also run installer of a dictonary? It is the same link (http://aspell.net/win32/). The otherone won't work (http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/wordlist/ispell-enwl-3.1.20.zip).

Otherwise, the relative path is normaly only for Massstorages like USB. You don't need it.
But you can use if you have still problems. Do you have internet? You use Linux, or not? So relative path is not the absolute path you typed in the box (C:\Program Files\Notepad++\plugins\Aspell\bin). The relative path was still shown in the box (..\Aspell\bin) and it was correct for you.

      Best Regards
      Jens
