I've searched this forum and it's clear that similar issues have been evoked without any follow up! (So sad...)

There's a general misunderstanding that ASP is a language similar to VBScript.  That's not true.

ASP is just an ENVIRONMENT in which the default language is VBScript.  Another natively supported language is JScript.  It's also possible to use other script languages if the correct script engine is installed by users, as some others had pointed already.

I don't mind my .asp file are misinterpreted as VBScript, but I would like NotePad++ to change the syntax highlighting name from "ASP" to "ASP (VBScript)" or something similar to clarify this confusing issue.

By the way, any other knows if there's a syntax highlighting for ASP with JScript?  JavaScript could do the job for the meanwhile, but it's incomplete and inadequate.

         TIA

      I have the same problem.

I use quite a lot ASP files with jscript and Notepad++ implements a wrong syntax coloring. Could there be two different file types: ASP (VBScript) and ASP (JScript)?

Right now this last language doesn't get support from Notepad++.

      Thanks.

What should I do to make this little wish (just a change of name -- that won't take the developers more than 10 seconds!) to come true??

uhmm... do it yourself? Since it hardly would take any time that can't be a problem, right?

I'd like to "do it myself", but where and how?

Its hardcoded into the menu so you cannot rename it. You can however change the description tag in stylers.xml so it gets changed in the styler configuration dialog
