    Hi,
    I get that message when starting notepad++, and it loads afterwards, but with big icons; not what I get on my laptop.
    Neither do I get that error message on my laptop.
    Any solutions? (this happens with latest 2.9 version, and down to 2.7)

      View->Tool Bar->Give me the ugly, hideous, standard icons OR View->Tool Bar->Reduce me (with nice icons) will solve your second problem, and uninstalling and reinstalling will probably solve your second problem.

      Your %APPDATA%\Notepad++\config.xml is probably corrupted.
      Just delete it than relauch notepad++ (Make sure that you have the config.xml beside notepad++.exe).

      An alternative way (which is easier and more certain) is re-install your notepad++ with the installer.

        I found that copying the config.xml from the program files\notepad++ directory to the documents and settings\application data\notepad++ directory fixed this problem.

        I also deleted all of the files from the session.xml in the documents and settings\application data\notepad++ directory...

        This is in response to the problem "load config.xml failed"

          Copying config.xml from program files\notepad++ to C:\Documents and Settings\Owolabia.LTHER04100\Application Data\Notepad++ fixed this problem for me.

            I didn't have a "Notepad++" directory in my "C:\Documents and Settings\...\Application Data" directory, so I created one an then put a copy of my config.xml. That worked for me.
