I think, saving the settings (session.xml, config.xml etc.)
in the main Directory (same place as notepad++.exe) is a bad
idea.
I would save them in %AppData%\notepad++\
There they are user specific, and you don't have to write
to a possible read only folder.

But i have a doLocalConf.xml and still the session.xml and
the config.xml in the notepad++ folder always get the
current date/time stamp. When i delete my config.xml in
the notepad++ folder, notepad++ complaints about
'Load config.xml failed.' There is a config.xml in
%AppData%.
(Using Notepad++.exe 4.1.2)
May be i did something wrong when installing?
I never used the installer, always downloaded
the zip and copied the content to a folder on my
server.

Finally i got it now,
when there is _no!_ doLocalConf.xml, the settings are saved
in %AppData%\notepad++.
I wonder, where this file came from, i never created
it, may be from one of the zips.
Perhaps i missed an update, where this was explained
in the changelog.
