feature request: compare multiple selections

I was looking today for a tool that would do this. Then I realized, actually I'd prefer if my favourite text editor (notepad++) did it. So if anyone is looking for a bright idea for a new feature...
when two documents are open in side-by-side views, I'd like to be able to select some text in each one and see a "compare" of them. Like you get in some source-control merging tools.
I've been playing with the views and cloning stuff for a few minutes, and I finally figured out why it would be useful. in a long HTML document, I can be editing <script>s in the <head> and elements in the <body> at the same time. neat!
that's useful since the two documents are actually the same document.
well, now I want to have two different documents open in the same side-by-side configuration, but show all the differences between them. It may suffice to just compare the whole document rather than compare a selection within each... it accomplishes the same thing

You could also use ExamDiff Pro for this.
You can try an evaluation version if you like.
You can simply copy the two selections you want to compare into EDP.
You can also select a fragment of each of two compared files and compare both of these fragments.

To compare two text files, try Winmerge. "WinMerge is an Open Source visual text file differencing and merging tool for Win32 platforms. "

ExamDiff is a good little program for that.
KDifff is another open source and good file and directory compare program
