Hi, I'm looking for the same feature. It seems it does not exist for real. I'm trying to do an EDIT and not only a select. If tehre really is a way to select a column and edit (write into) it, I'd be happy to know how to do it.

Obviously the sender of the easy "Look the FAQ" answer has no idea what you are talking about. I am looking for the same feature as well, but seems it's not there. For me it is a must, and only if you have seen and used this feature you can appreciate it.

There is a very good feature in UltraEdit - however it's inexpensive but not for free.
+ There I can switch the feature "column mode" on and off (via button oder Alt-F3)
+ I can write and overwrite multiple lines simultaneously.
+ I can mark, copy and paste rectangles of text.
+ I can delete multiple lines of text (via destructive backspace).
This would be even very nice for notepad++

UltraEdit: the colum mode edit functions as described is the reason for using UltraEdit on special tasks
NPP: The benefit of NPP is that I see if the a lie ends with CRLF of LF and its keymapping abilities (bind a action to an key)
My wish is to combine these benefits together. Display the file as NPP does and have a colum edit mode as in UltraEdit in ONE editor.
If I find such one I will be verry happy. I would prefer to find this in a further version of NPP.

yeah... I was looking for the same feature. The feature is in Crimson (yet another free text editor).

There exist a possibility to insert or overwrite text. Use TextFx a good plugin.

I don't use it no more. But it can easily downloaded free in the emule P2P "shop"
