    hi there
my database backs up to 650MB in a TAR file
ive been running out of disk space recently and looked in my DATA folder inside pgsql and its 33GB!!!

    the site isnt that big
there is about 20 1GB files that were created july 12th 2007, im wondering if this i was when i did a PG vaccum clean etc....
bit unsure why there is so many big files... anyone have any ideas??
    thanks

      Hi Oli,

sounds a bit strange. Out database backup is 500mb and a cu -s -h ./ in the data dir is 350mb. And we do a vacuumdb -z every night.

Perhaps you should check what happens if you create a new database and execute a restore.

We are facing the same problem....was there a final solution to this. We are puzzled why the DB size should be so large. I am pretty sure this does not reflect the actual data we have added to the CMS...

      Hiya,
yep seems strange to me too.
If i go into my new postgres server which runs the same database only about 3 weeks older and do a du
the folder size in data is 700mb

the backup on the live site last night is 700mb too! so how can 34GB be compressed into 700mb im confused.
this is the only database on the live site too.

i suppose i could restore into a new database but what if the restore trys to make a nother 34gb database i only have 10gb free :o)

      :)
