    Dear all,

I intend to submit a proposal to the European Union 7th Framework Program to ask for funding the development of an Open Source ERP based on Adempiere.

The project would involve from 8 to 10 developers located in three or more different EU or associated countries. In each of these countries either a profit or a non-profit body should employ some of these developers. The employer would be reimbursed by EU for a 75% share of the developers' wages and other expenses.

Actually, for bureaucratic reasons, the project has to be autonomous so it would be separated from the official Adempiere Project. In any case it will be possible to arrange for a coordination among the two projects.

I would like to know your opinions and I'm looking for companies or non-profit body in EU who would be interested in partecipating in this proposal.

    Thanks all,
    Danilo Pompei

      Your idea sounds interesting.

I would like to add my company in the list with possible participants. My company is located in Bulgaria and is very young member of EU...

      But i have few questions:
      1) What would be the aim of this project? I do not believe that EU will give money without asking for something in return.
      2) How long would be this project?

      Kind regards,
      Trifon

        Hi,

I'd definitely be interested.  We are based in the UK and I'm active in the accounting group.

I can speak to a few other parties in Europe if we need more involvement.

Actually Albert, I think your facts need updating.

Currently, there are over 80 countries with IFRS compliance (although according to the IASB there are near 100 countries where IFRS is accepted).  You can check them here: http://www.iasplus.com/country/useias.htm

The first country, I think, was Australia and an Australian CPA is head of the technical committee of the IASB even today.  I learnt IAS in 1989 and at that time it was commonly used in Australia.  It's been interesting to see how standards have changed over the last 18 years.

The USA were well behind - they backed US GAAP for many years until a number of corporate failures lead them to understand that the US standards were fundamentally flawed.  Since then, the US GAAP team have worked towards harmonisation with the IFRS (as part of the same standard setting group).

Compiere/Adempiere full support IFRS for EU ?

      ========================================================================
EU to decide on equivalence of Chinese accounting standards by mid 2008
      =========================================================================
      BRUSSELS, July 4 (Xinhua) --
The European Union (EU) on Wednesday agreed with China to work towards a final decision on whether Chinese accounting standards is equivalent with the EU standards by mid 2008.

      ............
      ............
      ............

If so, China would be the fourth country following the
      (1)United States,
      (2)Japan and
      (3)Canada,
to hold accounting standards equivalent to those in the EU.
Then Chinese companies listed in European stock markets would have no need to change their annual financial reports.

It will be interesting to see an European fork funded by the EU. The support from the EU will drive things for the community everywhere where the net input is 75% sponsorship plus EU recognition. As for the outcome, many EU based localisation can forge onto its own roadmap for such a proposed project. In the middle of it common adaptors can be factored for other locales to share and benefit. Those who do so shall lead.

Nevertheless this is new news to me, so now i can smell the sweet tulips from afar :-)

      Dear all,

I'm very sorry but I've just realized that there are no funds available from FP7 for the second call.

The document I refered to is
      ftp://ftp.cordis.lu/pub/fp7/ict/docs/ict-wp-2007-08_en.pdf

Unfortunately I didn't realize that the "challenge" we are interested in (challenge 1.3, page 15) is not funded by call 2. It was only funded by call 1 which is already expired.

I hope there will be more calls in the future, I'll keep you informed.

      Best regards,
      Danilo Pompei

      Ahoi,
networking is still push by the EU.
There should be 3 or more countries connected by a R&D topic (for example www.eureka.be)
For this a "connective topic" in the sense of R&D connected to Adempiere has to be focused.
