Hello there..
I just downloaded v3.3 and I am trying to follow the procedure mentioned on the site about custom toolbar icons but to no avail.. The software still persists on using its own icons.. I remember the a few versions ago (probably somewhere in the 2.x branch) this worked...
Any ideas? (Or even a forum thread that I could follow?)

Hum, in fact... I should say "the problemS" (with an "S").
Because there are two problems !
First... the file "Readme.txt" names the file
"toolbarIcon.xml"
and not
"toolbarIcons.xml"
There is no "s" at the end in the "Readme.txt" file. And effectively, the real filename must NOT have an "s". So the file which is provided in the package must be renamed. It must NOT have an "s" at the end.
Second... now it is the explanations in the "Readme.txt" file which are not enough. Because it forgets to say that it is necessary to set the option "View/Tool bar/Small icons" or "View/Tool bar/Big icons" and to >>>NOT<<< keep the option "View/Too bar/Small standard icons".
Now for the other set of icons ("Crystalpp_ToolbarIcons.exe")... it's exactly the same problems. We have to take off the final "s" of the name of the file (correction of a problem in the package) , and we have to set the correct menu (a step which is not indicated in the "Readme.txt")
That's all.
For the other functions of the application it really seems to be a very good editor providing a lot of nice functions. Bravo !

If you find the file "doLocalConf.xml" in the Notepad++ installed directory, you should copy the "ToolbarsIcon.xml" in Notepad++ installed directory instead of "%APPDATA%\Notepad++" directory.
Otherwise, check that the "big icon" item (in the menu) is enabled.

It's seems that I found root cause of the issue.
To activate new icons you have to update toolbarIcons.xml with new path to icons.
I tried to make it by this way:
incorrect
pathPrefix = "C:\ico"
The correct path looks like
pathPrefix = "C:\ico\"

If there is an editor which is really very bad... it's the one provided in the tools of the Sourceforge forums to send our posts. It seems to be antediluvian...
It even doesn't accept double quotes or inferior/superior for the most regular expressions of the current use.
My two previous posts used these expressions. Very usual double quotes in the first one. I saw the result very ugly, so I reposted with other usual signs... but the result is now uglier.
I understand now why so many developpers stand their forum out of the Sourceforge even if their application is in Sourceforge.
So you'll find my text to read it without any problem with this link :
I have seen that when we quit the editor, some dll files remains in memory. So it is to be checked out for the next version of the editor.
I found it because when I did iterative tests at the end (but before I resolved the problem)... and I found that the behavior of the icons remains the same after they were the right ones !!! Impossible to get back to the wrong situation !!! As if some variables were not reset when we quit the application ! So, I decided to see what was remaining in the Windows task manager... He he ! And yes, there was 2 dll files remaining.
The consequence is that when we do successive tests... we have two solutions to avoid the "brain crash" :-) : purge both dll in the Task Manager... or reboot the Windows Session (or the machine) !
If not, you can test as long as your life will continue... because there will be no change in the behavior of the icons until they're reset from the memory. I'm sure it's a reason why friendly posters of this forum have not found the solution before I come and find this. (Humbly)
But now, it's the pass... the solution is set. In my text file (linked in my previous post) you'll have the solution to use these beautiful icons before the issue of the next version.

In my case,the text file wrote "toolbarIcon.xml".
But i have to name the .xml file as "toolbarIcons.xml" to make it work.

Oops. wrote NPPToolbarIcons.xml instead of the correct filename toolbarIcons.xml.
