The virus definitions 269.10.4/896 (dated 11-Jul-2007) says that notepad++.exe (version 4.1.2) contains a virus of name "Tojan Horse Generic5.HLS"
This is of course a false positive.
By downgrading Notepad++ to version 4.1.1 I can run the program okay without AVG kicking-in.
I have tried deleting the exe and getting the latest from SF (just in case it was not the exe but my system) but the latest exe from the servers triggers AVG again.
This appears to only be a problem on Notepad++ v4.1.2

AVG 7.5 Network edition also says notepad++.exe (version 4.1.2) has the trojan. I installed notepad++ a few weeks ago. AVG does a scan every day, but didn't notice anything until yesterday (July 11).

Just to make sure that you are fully aware this forum is only manned by other AVG Free users... we don't work for Grisoft. All moderators of this forum are volunteers and contribute their time freely.... On the AVG Free forum this is the only way to deal with false positives....
If you suspect a file to be a false positive. Test the file at [virusscan.jotti.org] and if it is a false positive, archive (zip, arc, tar etc) the file using a password and email a copy to virus@grisoft.com with a brief description as well as the password you used to archive it with.
If it is a false positive , turn off hueristic scanning for the time being. When Grisoft adjusts the virus defintions you can turn it back on. If turning off Hueristics still doesn't allow access to the file while testing and emailing... disable the resident shield temporarily.
