I love NotePad++ but I have to exit and use PFE when I want to print a file because NP++ inserts extra space between lines of text and thus uses more paper when printing. Could an option be added to compress the vertical spacing while printing so that we would use less paper? I hope this will be a very popular and environmentally friendly option.
If this has already been suggested, I apologize for not finding it in the forum.

I'm not seeing much interline spacing on screen. When I select a line of text, I see that the tail of the 'g' is on the last pixel line, and there are maybe three pixels of space at the top of the line. Is that what you are seeing?
I see more spacing between lines on this forum: an extra pixel above and below the baseline. There is an empty pixel line below the tail of the 'g', here.
I was thinking that if just one font was too big, it messed things up for every font... --Joel
Side note: I've removed the Comic Sans MS font from the stylers.xml file. Using regular Notepad, I changed all instances of
fontName="Comic Sans MS"
to
fontName=""
And fontsize is either "10" or "" throughout my version of the file. As an experiment, you could make a backup copy of stylers.xml and then standardize the font stuff to be one font for the global style, with one font size (I use Lucida Console, 10), then set the others to fontname = "" and fontsize = "".

You might try experimenting with setting the global font styles, Patrick. Someone remarked in a different thread that setting the indent font allowed him to tweak the spacing in the normal display of text. Maybe something there affects the print spacing, the way a smilie image will increase the line spacing in a web post.

Thanks for the response. I've tried using different fonts with little or no effect on the interline spacing. This vertical spacing seems to be largely independent of the font chosen. I believe most of us choose font sizes around 8 to 10 for screen and sometimes a bit larger for printing. Regardless of what I do however, I get much more space between the lines both on screen and on paper than I do with other editors. I can't find a user-adjustable setting in NPP that allows me to change it.
