What a good news!!!!!!!!!!!! Notepad++ is already a very very good editor, but I am sure that with a editing column mode it will be absolutely the best.

You can already select text in column mode - select one corner then press alt while you select the opposite corner of the block.
Column mode edition will be in next version 4.2
