I get some lagginess when I use notepad++ (a program that I recently discovered and quite enjoy, thank you very much).
When I'm typing, writing words rapidly down in sucession, spacing, backspacing, etc., I notice a lag. This lag isn't present when, for instance, I type out messages on an internet browser or when I use basic notepad. It's discomforting enough for me to seek help about it, but I'm determined to fix this problem because I like notepad++ so much.
I've searched for other thread with the terms "lag" or "high cpu usage" and have not found what I'm looking for (eg, "explore.dll" is not among my plugins).
Does anyone know what I can do to eliminate or minimize this lag? I've downloaded this program since 4.02 and have had the problem. I have installed recently version 4.12 and still have the problem. The txt file that I experience the lag on is about 6.4 kb in size, which is quite small. I don't yet know enough to give information specific than that.
My computer is working fine. I have Windows XP SP2 and my cpu generally runs at 0-2% cpu usage, but spikes when I use notepad++.
Any suggestions?
Thank you.

By paragraph, do you by any chance mean one really really long single line of text (that is getting wrapped at the edge of the screen ten or twenty times)?
I have noticed that excessively long *single lines* of text cause slowdowns on my P166 laptop, but code which has plenty of carriage returns and short lines does not, even if the file is huge.

You didn't say what the file type was. There may be some language-specific extra processing occurring.
You might try removing plugins, one by one, to see if they are contributing. I will see some lag with the nifty Function List plugin, but only when editing relatively large source files. --Joel

The file type is an ordinary ascii .txt file which I've been writing ordinary paragraphs and sentences on.
I noticed the lag doesn't happen when I'm working within the space of a shorter paragraphs or when I'm starting a new one (with lines seperating each paragraph) but when the paragraph gets larger the lagging starts to occur. The larger the paragraph, the more severe the lag.
I removed each .dll plugin in the plugin folder, closing and reoopening each time. The lag is there regardless.
Any clue?
I really appreciate the help. Thanks.

I'm clueless. (My friends tell me that a lot.) If you have a reasonably fast machine, you might check the different preference settings one by one to see if any might be contributing.
There may be some keyboard processing going on under the covers that is trying to support your computer use, like an accessibility option or a hotkey program. Keyboard loggers and malware can interfere with computer usage in the manner you describe. Even a buggy video driver can contribute lag.
I hope you can find the problem. --Joel

I don't think it's the preferences since they're set to basic -- change to or from the default doesn't change anything.
Secondly, I'm guessing the problem doesn't relate to background setting, general computer programs, video software, or malware -- considering that this problem doesn't exist anywhere, notepad, or this very message box.
To repeat, the lagging occurs only when writing in the space of a long paragraph (consisting of about 200 or 300 words or so).
I'm hoping the above info will mean something to a programmer somewhere. If anyone out there understands this problem, please reply and give suggestions.
Thanks.
ps: I have a 3.2 ghz pentium computer with 2 gb ram.
