    Hello Notepad++ users

    I proudly announce new versions of two plug-ins. They should solve some issues and crashes.
    Changes and links to download:

    Explorer 1.4 RC:

    Fix: Option dialog crashed if explorer wasn't used until Notepad++ startup.
    Fix: Automatic splitter moved in some cases. Now splitter is fix.
    New: Favorites stores the expand state.
    New: The user can choose between Windows system icons or standard icons of plug-in (useful for OS Windows 2000)
    New: Changeable timeout when explorer updates volume information of drives. Now unconnected network drives are shown "in time".

    HexEditor 0.8.3:

    Fix: Crash on adding text into edit field when Notepad is started without an opened document. (This crash could also be solved by removing the NppSearchInFiles plug-in).

    HELP NEEDED:
    The crash of HexEditor was caused since version 4.1 of Notepad and the simultaneously usage of NppSearchInFiles. Please can someone confirm that older version of Hex Editor works perfectly without installation of NppSearchInFiles? Could also someone confirm, that new version of HexEditor works good with NppSearchInFiles?

    Note: One issue is well known on using both plug-ins. After startup of Notepad++ it is not possible to switch into hex mode. Only after switch to another document hex mode works. If you remove again NppSearchInFiles - this change the behaviour of Notepad++ - HexEditor works correct again.

    Best Regards and thanks for any help
    Jens

        Don't know if this is relevant, but I've replaced my previous versions of HexPlugin (0.8.2) and ExplorerPlugin (1.3).  After done that, starting NP++ is constantly crashing (don't even see the application start up, it immediately crashes).

        I've then removed both plugins and the application started again.

        Then I've added only explorer.dll.  Result: crash of NP++ (as described above).
        Then I've added only hexeditor.dll (removed again explorer.dll).  Result: no problems, NP++ starts without any problems.

        Version: NP++ 4.1
        OS: WinXP home edition
        HexEditor plugin version 0.8.3
        Explorer plugin version 1.4 (gives problem).
        Situation: open NP++ without any document loaded.

        Best rgds,

          Re the crash using Explorer 1.4 with Notepad++ 4.1.x:

          Check out the related thread in the Open Discussion forum.

          Something to do with needing to delete the old "favourites.dat" first...

      Jens, can you describe step-by-step what must we do to reproduse this problematic situation? :-)
      For example, Notepad++ must be started with no opened files or with previously opened files (when Remember Last Session is ON)? Is there another problematic issues? What versions of HexEditor plugin must be tested?

      - Hex Editor Version 0.8.2 crashes
      - Notepad++ 4.1.x
      - SearchInFiles 1.10
      1. Start Notepad with "Remebering Last Session". Keep sure there are some file available on startup.
      2. Go into hex mode of current selected file -> it should crash.

      Do steps 1 and 2 without SearchInFiles. It shouldn't crash anymore.
      Do steps 1 and 2 without both plugins but new version of Hex Edit. It shouldn't crash anymore but read in note about new issue.

      Best Regards
      Jens

      I just have downloaded HEX-editor and SearchInFiles plugins.
      The results:
      (1) with both HEX-editor and SearchInFiles:
      - after steps 1 and 2 (I mean the steps you have described in your previous post) Notepad++ does not crash
      - when I close Notepad++ then it crashes (but if I close Notepad++ without previous usage of the HEX-editor, it does not crash)
      - when I press Ctrl+F/F3 or try to do the same from main menu, Notepad++ crashes. The same is with Replace.
      (2) without SearchInFiles:
      - no crashes when closing Notepad++ or finding/replacing

      Thanks for you help. So the result is: It crashes with the current version of SearchInFiles and the old version of HexEditor (0.8.2).

      Still crash it now with version 0.8.3? Do you tested it on W98?

      Best Regards
      Jens

      Just tried 0.8.3.
      With SearchInFiles plugin, HEX-editor does not switch to HEX-mode at all. I.e. the plugin does nothing.
      Is it a new feature? ;-)
      When there is no NppSearchInFiles.dll in the plugins folder, HEX-editor works as expected.

      Did not test under W98.

      No, it depends on NppSearchInFiles.dll.
