A function "Edit - Turn tabs to spaces" and the other way round would be great.

  It will convert to whatever is currently selected in Settings | Tab Settings

    This feature is not enough.
    
    It is only convert lead tabs. If there are some tabs among words, the tabs will be ignored.
    
    Meanwhile, if some lead space is not multiples of tab spacing, it ignore the additional spaces.
