    I saw a guy in the computer lab create a progam that opened multiple programs at the same time (AOL, Firefox, Word) using notepad++.  How can I do this?

      I'm not sure --since I haven't tested it myself--, but it's possible he may done that trough the edition of shortcuts.xml (I don't know if there's a GUI for this).

      There you can find the default commands (those listed in the Run option of the menu), so maybe he edited them (or added more).

      More probably the guy created a batch script (a bunch of commands to be executed by windows console, each one on a separate row).
      For example you can try this:
      1) Open Notepad++
      2) Copy the following in a new file:

      @rem Launches Word
      start winword

      @rem Launches Notepad++ site
      start http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/

      @rem Launches Firefox
      start C:\Progra~1\Mozill~1\firefox.exe

      @rem As I'm using Miranda, but not ICQ I'm not sure where is icq.exe located
      @rem so this example launches Miranda IM http://www.miranda-im.org/
      start C:\Progra~1\Miranda-IM\miranda32.exe

      @rem This would open an Excel file from My Documents if it exists or show error message if it doesn't exist
      start excel "%HOMEPATH%\My Documents\SampleFile.xls"

      3) Save the file as somename.bat (here the '.bat' extension is important, you can change the 'somename' to aything you like). After saving the file Notepad++ will Highlight the contents, as it recognises the .bat extension.
      4) Start the saved file with double click

      A search in your favourite serch site for 'windows batch scripting' will help you understand how the above example works.
