how do i turn off tab functionality?

    how do i turn off tab functionality? I want to just load text files over old ones all the time like regular notepad.

      Are you thinking of something other than Settings | Tab Settings | ...

      You can always use Alt+009 if you want to insert a tab character.

        I think he means turning off the tabbed-files interface, turning NP++ into a single-document editor...

      Hmm, seeing as running a search for this only yields this particular thread is it at all possible to remove the tab bar functionality in this application? Or at the very least make it so that if you only have one document up it does not bring up the tab bar? I have previous documents showing up when I open a new document and can not seem to get rid of that particular behavior even when setting the history feature to zero.

        Also, if you are using 4.1.1 (and maybe 4.1.0), The "Remember the current session for next launch" checkbox works for me as a toggle. It is never set in 4.1.1 in the Preferences dialog.

        To keep Notepad++ from re-opening the previously-opened files, "Remember the current session for next launch" should be UNchecked.  The checkbox is on the Preferences dialog, MISC tab.  --Joel
