I've just installed notepad++ and find it very nice. Unfortunately it lacks in the main feature I need: it can't open a very big file. Very big, for me, means >500MB.
When I try, it gives me "instruction 0x10043e73 try to access addr 0x0000000. Memory can't be written" (translated from my italian Win2000).
Is it a notepad++ limit or am I doing something wrong?

Love the program, and it's infrequent when I need to open large files. Have a beefy server (8GB RAM, 4xXeon Processors, Win2003 Enterprise) I tried to open a 300MB text file on ... memory goes up to about 1GB then the program completely crashes.
Does anybody know the imposed limited for Notepad++? Or is Windows to blame? Or some combination thereof?

I've just had the same problems with a bit smaller file. I work wtih a Windows version.
Notepad opens my 100Mo file (about 4,14 10^6 lines) but not my 250Mo one. Lines are all about 20 to 25 characters.
I managed to open it with a shareware (Textpad) but found no other text editor able to do it.

Unfortunately most editors have troubles with opening large files - I've tried many in my practice. If you need to open these files only for reading, try the freeware Lister [http://www.ghisler.com/lister/]

Agree about UltraEdit.
UltraEdit claims to be able to open, modify and close files in excess
of 4 GB, under 'Database Handling Features'

Try Winvi which is a freeware used to edit large file, get it from http://www.winvi.de/en/links.html.
I think it is worth to try.
You can try UltraEdit / UltraStudio - they have limit 4GB for one file, I think...
