I have been using Notepad++ as my default viewer and editor for years, and this little application has been most competent in all aspects.
A problem with GPO's in our AD has forced us to enable verbose logging for policies. This log file is unreadable in Notepad++. I have tried all meny options available in version 4.02.

This file resides on all Windows XP machines in - C:\WINDOWS\Debug\UserMode, with name Userenv.log and Userenv.bak.

  Wordpad doesn't open the file correctly, either, and MS Word asked for an encoding when you open it and only displays correctly when you select "Unicode" (not any of the variations like UTF-8 or UCS-2 LE). It's in a non-standard Unicode format that Notepad happens to handle correctly (appears to be some kind of UTF-16 encoding to me).
