I've tried many and have found notepad plus to be by far the best editor in terms of features and (especially) speed. However, I'm big on aesthetics, and was wondering if you would consider eliminating the window borders around the editing "canvas". Check out evolvEd to see what I mean. True, windowless fullscreen mode is a great environment for coding!
