Notepad++ is awesome but alot of the GUI elements that it uses makes it look a little bit Win3.1'ish. (mainly because of the 3D border overuse)

Here is a little screenie of how I hope Notepad++ will look in the near future:

In this screen i made the tab control more seperate and not surround the Scintilla control with a 3D border. I also removed the 3D border box around the tabs+scintilla control (why is it there anyway. Instead I made another thin seperator from the menu to the tab area similar to the one that seperates the text-menu from the icon-menu. And last I removed the 3D effect on the scintilla control.

    What do you think?

I made this based on a program I have called JassCraft, I think it looks pretty cool. I haven't added any of the menus or buttons that are in NPP, and it was made fairly quickly, but it looks really cool:

Again, this looks very similar to JassCraft, so you would have to change it a bit, but it looks much better than NPP now (and possibly even the other ideas in this thread). I am not sure if it is possible to make it like this though, and it could make the file bigger (I really don't know).

I'm bumping this thread up because I'd also really like to see a cleaner interface, without all the 3D borders.
It would make notepad++ more pleasant too look at. A simple and clean gui, but a very powerfull program.

        Best Regards,

        Niek

I like it! So, if do some minor changes in your screen.

      Look it at:
      http://www.nexo.com.br/temp/notepadplus/betterGUI.png

      The changes was:
      - reduce the orange bar in the current tab
      - change the icon to one that is similar to the toolbar icon

Hope you dont mind I use your screenshot.

It would be very welcome to see these changes, I've been wondering about the 3D borders as well - and they're indeed ugly.

Nice. Two heads working together works better then only one. :)

Do someone know who is responsible for the application maintenance? To implement this design improvements?
