"Element not found" error on start-up

I installed Notepad++ on my Acer PC ( Windows XP Professional, Version 2002, Service Pack 2. AMD Turion 64 Mobile). I tried installing both with npp.3.9.Installer.exe and then with npp.3.9.bin.zip.
It installed OK, but I am unable to bring it up. I get a System Err pop-up window with the message "Element not found".
I saw some old postings with this problem, but no one explained how to solve the problem.
Can anybody help?

Rename the Plungins folder to whatever then relaunch Notepad++.

Renaming the plugins folder didn't resolve the issue for me. Are there any other thoughts on why this is occurring? And how to resolve the issue without uninstalling and reinstalling?

Are you talking about v4.0? What is your os? What is the problem? Does Notepad++ crash or it just doesn't start? Scince I'm not sure you're the original poster, please give us more information to solve your problem, otherwise your post will be just ignored.
