Also, Task manager does not show any running NP++. I have also rebooted. I have also recopied the files over.
I'm not sure if this is relevent but last week I had an error where I ran into a Overrun error "666" (or at least that is what the error said). At that point, I lost all of my MRU listings. Since then MRU does not show up any more.
This might not be related but, you never know.

Please process the following instruction :
1. create a new folder.
2. unzip *ALL* the files into the fold that you just created.
3. rename *plugins* folder to *plugins.bak*
4. launch Notepad++.exe

Yes, create of a V40RC stub, and unzip into that, and then rename plugins
as something else (plugins_bak), and voila, it now starts in Win 2000. (no GPF)
[see also my other post, where delete of plugins folder contents was needed, before
older MP++ would re-install/start]
