I have a TEMPORARY install that will fix this issue with MSN. It is a build of the SVN 18th august. It did not crash after installing it on 3 of my computers.
Also remeber that this is a version that can be full of other bugs, so you will have to run this at your own risk. All i'm saying is that it worked great for me this far.

one of the %s'es has a null pointer, that's where it crashes I guess.. I do not really know the msn protocol, so I got stuck here. I hope this can be used to solve the problem.

Could you have future versions of the windows installer create a shortcut to start Gaim in this "safe mode"? I have run into similar problems before, and I wasn't aware the -n feature existed.

REMEMBER: Do NOT file any bug reports to gaim if you are using this install.

Same thing here...
Exactly the same thing here, started today. It crashes only on msn (not on YIM, ICQ, AIM) after it says "Getting cookie", at address 0x009C117D
It crashes somewhere inside

probably the most interesting part of the stack before it crashes, right before calling the function:

I think we all have this problem
SMN change their protocol this night
I am not having any problems with MSN and latest v2_0_0-branch (SVN revision 16770) on Fedora Core 5.
What version of gaim are you guys running and on what platform?
I run 2.0 beta3, on XP
1.5, Win XP
Funny, like a few other posters here I'm running a self-compiled SVN version, and no problems here as well.
Could be a currently fixed bug in 2.0.0b3?
I have the problem on win32 also.
I updated to the latest nightly win32 build dated Mon Aug 14 16:58:34 UTC 2006 from http://geddeth.dk/downloads/gaim/
That still has the problem too.
It seems to work properly now? :o
nope crashes on msn accounts. doesn't for gtalk and yahoo.
I am not a programmer, but I had to delete my MSN account from account.xml in order to get GAIM to boot up. Once there is a fix I can easily go back and re-add the account. I deleted my MSN account from account.xml but as soon as I re-added it it crashed again.
I removed the MSN account from the account.xml, too. But since around noon today, MSN seems to work again.
I don't have an account.xml that I can find in the windows version. Which file would have to be changed in gaim 1.5.0 windows version to make gaim work.
Run `gaim -n` to disable overall autologin and then disable your msn accounts.
same here. gaim 2 beta3 - ran with gaim -n
removed msn account
logged in fine.
added msn account - gaim crashed hard.
fix?
Could you have future versions of the windows installer create a shortcut to start Gaim in this "safe mode"? I have run into similar problems before, and I wasn't aware the -n feature existed.
Thank you very much :) I'm back up and running and will be closely watching for a fix.
I'm having the same problem here - Gaim v1.5.0 on winXP.
When I run 2.0 beta 3 (was running 1.5) and enable debug, it gives me:
msn: S: NS 000: CVR 2 7.5.0324 7.5.0324 6.2.0208 http://msgr.dlservice.microsoft.com/download/5/a/8/5a892c0f-5b87-4767-8927-6fe5d8cfc582/Install_MSN_Messenger.exe
other stuff and lots of
proxy: Connect would have blocked. Then it crashes hard.
