I just tried the new GAIM and it doesn't seem anything has changed much. The buddy list is cluttered so much now with the away message box and the boxes for all my accounts. I now have to scroll just to check who's online. I don't like that.  Also this version still has the drabby old looking icons that look like their colors have been through the wash way too many times. Please Gaim team get yourself a real designer and don't rely on engineers to do it. There's a reason people go to school to be engineers and there's reason people go to school to be designers.

      1) If you don't like one status box for each account, you can hide them by dragging the splitter
      2) the icons aren't really changed, are you volunteering to make new ones?

Personally I think most of the icons are ok.. new jabber icon rocks. The "washed" effect completely disappears if you update the yahoo icon. if anyone wants a copy just contact me on jan@blinque.co.uk

I agree with latinov1, these icons look like they were copied straight from MSN messenger 2.0... (I only use MSN messenger so I only know about these icons).... It really could look better than this

btw, what's up with this forum and these stupid " tags, why don't you just use a normal phpBB forum or something?

"I" dislike the "new" feature of sending "me" to whatever window I have Gaim running in. Did not see anything in the preferences to turn this "feature" off.

      VERY ANNOYING

I don't understand what you are referring to, can you clarify?

I'm going to assume that your use of quotes (esp. around "new") is trying to indicate sarcasm.  if so, please rephrase.

There is no new code to either create or avoid focus issues.  When is gaim pulling your focus? only on new window creation?  If so, that's a problem with your window manager. if not, then its a bug in gaim.

My main gripe is that the gaim-vv capabilities have not been rolled in for 2.0, particularly Yahoo voice in my case. If this is the case, then worked on gaim-vv should not have been shut down until they were ready to actually roll it into Gaim proper. No way to know how long it may be before there is something for Linux to support voice/video.

seems sourceforge is adding characters to messages. :-(

My disklike is the feature of send my open window back to whatever window I have gaim running in.

I'm running WindowMaker, and I have 4 windows working. I have gaim in it's own window. When anyone sends me a message, the focus is shifted back to window 4, to gaim.

No way to turn off this feature

do you have message notification loaded? did you tell it to set the Urgent hint?

-new status combo in buddy list
      -separeted account options on menu

      dislikes
      - text field at the bottom of the contact list is to big. Msgs usualy fit in one line.
      - Ctrl + Z does not minimize conversation windows anymore
      - Ctrl + Enter / Enter to send messages. Ok, I can always edit my gtk preferences file, but... Come on, it would be pretty simplier to do so thru a gui
      - Tabs are oversized, they always take the whole size
      - Many preferences are gone

I would also like the Ctrl + Enter back as an option. Could you make an "Advanced..." button at the bottom with the "Close" button for the power users who want all the features? It could be a Mozilla style list of all the features in gaim.

the current way of handling this solved a big problem for many Chinese (or other similar languages) users.

which preference removals upset you and more importantly, why do we not want to live without such a preference? (Paraphrasing Linus)

as an oscar user my message window is missing a send button, getinfo, .... it looks nakid as my friend says. The state changer may be a good idea but it is scary to new users. other gripes are cant ignore formating. Smooth scroll could become very annoying. I  love new fetures but dont like being stripped of preferences, sum times a mans gotta configure.

I'd love to give new icons...hell I'd love to help give GAIM a default good theme.

I'm sorry but it just seems like GAIM 2.0 went backwards in terms of functionality. It's just I see the GAIM UI and I see so many mistakes that are being made what with the huge icons, taking away of preferences, and so much more. It makes me wonder if this was properly tested even before the beta. Yes I know a beta is meant for testing but I'm sure some testing had to have been done before the beta stage. I mean the developers talk about how they are trying to simplify things for the new user and such. Did they actually test GAIM with new users?

That's what really annoys me and forces me to use Trillian even though I'd love to use GAIM.

the huge icons are still optional. the control just moved out of preferences.

This release conforms to the use patterns of the developers much more nearly than any previous release.

Perhaps you should read through this forum thread and provide comments where you disagree with the replies we are leaving.

I did have the plugin installed, but not with that paricular option. I turned off the "Raise conversation window", and it functions as before.

      Thanks
