Someone just turned us on to extremecomponents so we're taking a first look. We're wondering if extremecomponents will do some things that displaytag has problems with, like easily specifying the sort order for numeric strings, or date strings, ...
On the other hand, extremecomponents is still new, still version 0.9, doesn't export to XML yet, etc.
maybe eventually the two taglibs could merge, take the best of both etc.?

IMHO not. DisplayTag should just 'improve' the 'in place' search and the few performance problems.
