    Hi.
I have downloaded FreeTTS 1.1 and I have tested some examples. I think that it's an extraordinary  work. I would like to know where I can find the necessary documentation to adding italian voice.

    Thanks.

    Antonio.

      Hi Antonio:

Thanks for your interest in FreeTTS and for the kind words.

Creating new voices for FreeTTS is currently a troublesome process.  The starting point is FestVox (http://festvox.org), but moving FestVox voices to FreeTTS is a difficult task.  We know of people in the community that have been working on making this easier, however, and we're working with them to contribute their code/process to the open source community.  If this is something you're interested in tackling yourself, please let us know.

As soon as something is available, we will post a note in this forum.

      Sincerely,

      Willie Walker,

thanks for your reply. I'm interested to comprehend as it's possible to moving a voice from FestVox, in order to to add italian voice to FreeTTS, so please let me know any news related to this subject. I apologize to you as i don't speak (and write) English correctly,

        Sincerely

        Antonio Fontana.

          Hi Antonio:

To get a flavor for the effort required to generate a new voice for Festival, take a look at http://festvox.org/festvox/festvox_toc.html.  In my opinion, this is a very well written document and I'd recommend it as good reading to anyone.

After you read the document, you should have a good understanding of the components needed to create voice for Festival.

Creating a voice for FreeTTS will involve the same FestVox process, but will then involve some post processing to convert the FestVox voices to FreeTTS format.

At some point, we may consider reading the FestVox voice data directly.  For now, however, the plan is to just do a conversion off line.

          Hope this helps,

          Will

        Hi:

As far as I know, nobody is currently working in this space.  Wanna volunteer?  You'll be the first to really tackle the internationalization issue, which desperately needs some investigation in FreeTTS.

        Will

      Hi
Im a student, but recently i 've started to work with a fondation ONLUS. I read on this forum that first step for adding Italian voice is create an Italian voice for festival.
I know that this work has already been done.
So second step should be made a processing of conversion into FreeTTS format. I would know if it was possible or if it was in progress. I m very interesting in this.

        Hi Enrico:

You might try the instructions here:

           http://freetts.sourceforge.net/docs/index.php#festvox

These work with en_US voices, but it might take some extra tweaking and futzing to get them working with other voices.

      Hello everyone.
I'm a student and i'd like to add italian voice to freetts. I use an italian mbrola voice (it3 or it4) and it works, but not very good. The same thing for german mbrola voices, Instead of the us3 mbrola voice. Can anybody help me telling me what's the procedure to bring an mbrola voice on freetts.

Repeat: The german and italian mbrola voices works, but not as good as us2, us3 ...

      I have tho hypotesis:
      1) i'm wrong to specify the parameters pitch, range and rate in the MbrolaVoice constructors in MbrolaVoiceDirectory.java
2)I must use a different lexicon instead of cmulex the i think is only for us english. If it's so can tell me how create a lexicon for italian?

Thank you very much in advance

      Marco
