I decided to download the CVS and build MPC myself since it has been over 6 months since an update. There are a few new things (not sure about fixes) but it runs fine. I have it built with Pentium4 optimizations, but whatever I have done the file size is twice that of 6.4.8.2 and I cannot figure out why with everything on Unicode Release and full optimization.
I have also added some icons that were never placed and fixed a few warnings while I was at it. I must say nice work, gabest, and if I have free time I'll try and clean up your code (mainly class structure from what it looks like).
If there is a demand for this updated build I'll post it on the internet.

I'm guessing it is UPX which is on sourceforge. That got it to just 30k bigger than 6.4.8.2 so I'm happy. It equals memory consumption now too. Without the EXE compression MPC takes up 2 megs less space in RAM.

IMHO it's better to save RAM than to save hard disk space (most people have much more hard disk space than RAM). And for downloading, it could be packed with 7zip sfx or something.
Cheers

In a way, yes. It will allocate more memory, but since a fair part of it is needed only at startup, it is memory that can be swapped out to disk if needed.

Sounds good, Michael! I don't think many people visit this little SourceForge forum though, so don't be disheartened if there aren't many responses. But I for one would love to see the code cleaned up and some updates made.
Would you be able to include the latest Matroska Splitter in there? The one that comes with MPC 6.4.8.2 doesn't play Matroska files muxed with mkvtoolnix 0.9.5 and later.

you should better name it like mpc-20041018-cvs so everyone knows from which date the snapshot is that was used to build it..... although it doesn't change too often nowadays ;P

Could it be that the web interface is enabled by default in the 8.3 release or is it only caused by my settings?
I think the most users dont need this feature at the beginning and they will wonder about the firewall warning.

The bink code is not available anymore. I need it to link with MPC so it will not be possible unless I rewrite it and somehow avoid a lawsuit from Rad. There's their RAD TOOLS to view Bink video with if you really must watch videos in their poor format. I never understood why games didn't use MPEG for video under a free agreement instead of paying for Bink. Everyone has a 52x CD-ROM now and so transfer speed is no longer an issue. I will cry if a 2005 game contains any Bink video.

If you absolutely need bink support, just download one of the older versions that support it.
Though I don't remember when exactly Gabest had to take it out.

Thenks for reply
well i have sometimes urge to watch few game videos. :) Beyond from that I agree Bink is realy bad format (and cpu hungry). yup its great pity that it's still around and alive.
Gabest seems busy with other projects i don't want to waste his time. But on start on this threed you say that you made few little changes and in your free time will make more. Please if you will find free time and work more on MPC attach list of changes to it.

MPC uses an exe compressor. I cannot remember the name. I used it a while ago, it is very good.
I am sure someone must know that compressor name...
I'm guessing it is UPX which is on sourceforge. That got it to just 30k bigger than 6.4.8.2 so I'm happy. It equals memory consumption now too. Without the EXE compression MPC takes up 2 megs less space in RAM.

well UPX is supposed to cause no memory overhead...
In a way, yes. It will allocate more memory, but since a fair part of it is needed only at startup, it is memory that can be swapped out to disk if needed.

Nice !!!
You should call it MPC 6.4.8.3 beta ;-)
I'll be happy to test it (sent you a mp)
I saw that the last modifications of the cvs files were done 5 days ago, are you up to date ?
thanks
I whuld be heppy to see this new bulid if you are so kind mister Michael Cronenworth please post it somwhere on internet (and provide link to it)
I just noticed my e-mail was out of date, so I didn't receive any of your messages. I've updated it so any further messages will be delivered.
I'll host the build on a site for a few days, then anyone else can link it. http://s87769002.onlinehome.us/mplayerc6.4.8.3_CVS.rar
you should better name it like mpc-20041018-cvs so everyone knows from which date the snapshot is that was used to build it..... although it doesn't change too often nowadays ;P
You're right... I just forgot about it at the time. I'll use American date convention for this though. :p
http://s87769002.onlinehome.us/mpc_10-14-2004_cvs.rar
^ Use this link now.
Excellent job, thank you very much.
If I may dare a couple of suggestions:
1. use a name such as
mpc-<year><month><day>-cvs
(helps in sorting when downloading more than one)
2. use 7zip to pack (ok, size gain is minimal since the .exe is already packed by itself ...)
3. if you use eMule, share the file on that network and provide the ed2k link too :)
FWIW, I renamed your file to
mpc2kxp-20041014-cvs.rar
and it's now on the ed2k network; the link is:
ed2k://|file|mpc2kxp-20041014-cvs.rar|1372492|4C56986346404419110D1C6F6E5E9DFF|h=EBP6Q7MVH7P5RSL5L3PTHW53EM3ZAOKY|/
It doesn't matter that much and there probably won't be another build. I have too many other programming projects to engage in this one.
I do not like the numbering scheme others use, so you got what I like. :P
Could it be that the web interface is enabled by default in the 8.3 release or is it only caused by my settings?
I think the most users dont need this feature at the beginning and they will wonder about the firewall warning.
Thanks for this build... and thanks to gabest of course ;-)
Thenks for uplading! And few things, in next bulid (if will be eny) post list of changes (im a courios type)
and hmm eny chance for unlocking Bink decoding?

As for the changes list... I mearly built the code. I do not have a list of changes. You will have to ask gabest for that.
If you absolutely need bink support, just download one of the older versions that support it.
Though I don't remember when exactly Gabest had to take it out.

I need that build but there isn't in that address, plz put it again!
?
just downloaded it ok
I am not sure if it's wise using unreleased beta code though
way too many
...not :-P
in fact the following three... this... one: Dirac
- Dirac Video file format
- Dirac Video Reader filter
- Dirac Video Decoder filter
