    Hi,

I am just curious, what are your goals for this project? Are you planning on a hard coded mud, in the lines of a diku-circle-smaug? Or is it that you intent to make it flexible like a MudOS with LPC?

Any idea on what kind of virtual world you would like to create? I mean that are pretty big desicions you need to make before even attempting to code a mud.

Also, from the look of the code, do you have any idea on how to make this scale with many users? Do you plan to use design patterns, how do you cope with loading large worlds, mobs, objects, players etc. Is this going to be an event driven mud or are you going to implement the big cheese (main routine that handles everything). Right now it looks like it's entirely driven by commands send by the users. What is your design plan, class diagram etc?

This is not ment as critism, just wondering about the things. I'm looking for a small project to see what it is like to do open source coding. I've disected circle, mudos, empire and some mud clients. Got some tricks in my bag, but my main drawback is that I'm coding in vb. ;)

These are some really good questions.

Design plan? class diagram? would be nice to have ;)

I mainly joined this project because I was "looking for a small project to see what it is like to do open source coding."

As I know from the source code, you're able to create you're own NPC, Areas and so on.

But I guess speltex can answer that better :-)

Sorry this took so long. I've been really busy with stuff lately. Also, thanks Kirchdorfer for the response.

I have quite a few ideas of what kind of world I am going to be creating. A very good friend of mine and I have a game idea which I'm probably going to implement. Once the basics are finished, you will probably see the mud begin to steer in that direction, but for now, we're sticking to the basics.

Well, before I start, I should let you know I have no formal training in any programming language, so everything I know is self taught.

It is likely that in the future there will be a game loop implemented, to handle rounds & ticks, and some of the stuff like that, but it is likely that the command proccessing system will remain the same.

        Well Speltex,

If you and other people like I could probably apply for the project. As I said in my earlier post, I've disected a few muds myself, and could possibly help in developing this project.

I'll have a look at the job description.
