Extendable life spans?

I was tracking a nice female ladybug this one time, I'd greatly increased her health so she wouldn't die on me, and yet suddenly: poof, she died after all. I searched around for a while, but I've not been able to find any way to extend creatures' life spans. So this's something I'd quite like to see in ai Planet, both for the race as a whole and for just the selected creature.

PS. And finally I'd like to thank you for putting so much time into this project; I hope it will continue for a long time to come.

      The ladybugs die at 3000,

Er, yes, I'd noticed, and my question was could a feature be implemented so I can change that number?

Good suggestion. I know Dave (ai.planet creator) is on a much deserved holiday right now but I'm sure he'll put this in on his return.

Probably the default mode shouldn't be a hardcoded number but an average lifespan with a certain standard deviation attached?

Hey!  I'm back and had alot of fun.  Dushan had this feature proposed earlier, but its not implemented.  There are quite alot of DNA values that have yet to be put into the system.  I will add this one, so you can adjust it.  If I do this, the lifespan will evolve.  Should be interesting. ;)

I wonder what will be more advantageous: shorter lifespans or longer ones?  The longer-living ones will reproduce more, but will also consume more resources.  The shorter-living bugs should be able to evolve faster if the environment changes.

Thanks for the replies! Looking forward to having this feature.

A DNA value for the maximum age would be great ;) Developing longevity can be advantegous for a creature under certain circumstances.

I've made some progress on it:

      - Put a Lifespan value into the DNA.
      - Have it mutate by mutation*10.
      - Can edit the Lifespan

I also changed the mouse info feature to show the full details of an object instead of one line.  That way you can move the mouse over ladybugs and see the DNA without having to pop up a window for each one.  The amount of text is large.

What about a fertility value (like length of pregnancy)? Just a thought I got when reading this. It would help keeping the population of long-living creatures under control, while short-livers could reproduce faster (by default or evolution) to hold their population.
