Vido is a Video/Audio Downloader frontend for the popular youtube downloader youtube-dl, a rewrite of ytd-gtk by the same team, updated to python 3 using pygobjects and GTK+. Vido now uses yt-dlp, an updated fork of youtube-dl for downloading videos. yt-dlp is faster and supports more sites than the original youtube-dl The program has been tested only on linux and the installation instructions are also provided for the same on our wiki. We do not provide support for windows/mac however if someone wishes to port/compile/distribute the program for windows/mac they are most welcome. Refer to our wiki for details

youtube-dl is a command-line program to download videos from YouTube and a few more sites. It requires the Python interpreter (2.6, 2.7, or 3.2+), and it is not platform specific. We also provide a Windows executable that includes Python. youtube-dl should work in your Unix box, in Windows or in Mac OS X. It is released to the public domain, which means you can modify it, redistribute it or use it however you like.

The program lets you search for videos on youtube as though you are entering them directly on the browser input field, displays the search results and then lets you select which video to download from the list. Alternatively, you can have it read a file with the videos you want to download, line by line.
