Open Source ChromeOS Virtual Machine Software

The open-vm-tools project provides a suite of open source virtualization utilities and drivers to improve the functionality and user experience of virtualization. The project currently runs in guest operating systems under VMware virtualization.

Jasmin is a Java Assembler. It takes ASCII descriptions for Java classes, written in a simple assembler-like syntax. It converts them into binary Java .class class files suitable for loading into a Java Virtual Machine implementation.

crosvm (ChromeOS Virtual Machine Monitor) is a secure, lightweight virtual machine monitor built on top of the Linux KVM hypervisor. Developed for ChromeOS, it is designed to isolate and execute Linux and Android guests efficiently while maintaining strong security boundaries. Unlike general-purpose emulators like QEMU, crosvm avoids full hardware emulation and focuses on modern paravirtualized I/O using the virtio standard, reducing complexity and attack surface. Written in Rust, it emphasizes memory safety and modularity, allowing sandboxed device emulation with fine-grained privilege separation. crosvm underpins several ChromeOS subsystems, including Android Runtime for Chrome (ARCVM) and Crostini Linux containers, enabling rich application compatibility within a tightly controlled environment.

This is an x86 emulator written in pure Java based on the Dosbox project. It currently supports running Dosbox's built in DOS and well as booting into Windows 95/98/NT4.

Serpent is a real-time scripting language inspired by Python but completely reimplemented to support real-time garbage collection and multiple instances of the virtual machines running on independent threads.

Instructions: After starting this VM, enable the Play Store app, by clicking the Settings -> Apps -> Play Store -> Enable. Then, Launch Play Store App, by clicking the 3 vertical dots icon, at the bottom of desktop. Then download whatever app is needed from the Play Store. Quickly, Cancel any automatic downloads of Play Store app ( itself ), from the notification drawer, as this will prevent it from its future working. Disable the Play Store app, after your other app installs are completed. Increase CPU Count and Memory in VM's Settings, as required, for better performance. This system should keep running for Years, without requiring Updates / Breakages. If you are new to Virtual Machines, then please watch the Video below ( taken from my other sample PHP project called teamdocs. You may cleanup this Application from the htdocs home folder link & its corresponding database, after logging into mysql. The mysql root login credentials, sample .mysql_history, sample .bash_history are all kept intact for quick references in the home folder. These files can be edited using the free FileZilla ftp client software. Poe is a lightweight scripting language. The language is written entirely in ANSI C, meaning that the language is ultra-portable (i.e. that it can exist on any platform for which there is a standard-conforming C compiler). Poe is a toy language that is not, and will never be, suitable for production use. However, writing the language was a fantastic academic exercise and the source code is available freely as a reference to anyone who may be interested. The entirety of the source code was written by me, Ricky Stewart, with the exception of the parser which is generated from Flex/Bison.

Py4J enables Python programs to dynamically access arbitrary Java objects. Methods are called as if the Java objects resided in the Python virtual machine. There is no code to generate and no interface to implement for shared objects on both sides.
