My changes to qemu for legacy free GPU passthrough
...Legacy io accesses to vga registers are replaced through MMIO accesses.
Legacy accesses to vga memory are replaced through accesses to plain framebuffer.
This avoids vga arbiter problems in linux kernel.
kvm, or kernel-based virtual machine, is a device driver and userspace component for Linux that utilizes hardware virtualization extensions such as Intel's VT to create virtual machines running on a Linux host.
This project is aimed at providing (open) software to support pure virtual interface for Linux Kernel. All Linux networking functionality will be supported on these interfaces.
For Release 1.1
1) Adds support for connectivity between the vnics of two different systems by way of creating overlays. (VXLAN style)
2) On a virtual environment it can either run on hypervisor or inside a VM (as applicable).

IA-32 operating system with Java virtual machine embedded into the kernel. Part of the kernel is written in Java. Only Java applications can run on this system. jArt VM is a stand-alone virtual machine that interprets java bytecode. It can run under Linu
Featherweight Virtual Machine (FVM) is an OS-level virtual machine for Windows XP and Windows 2000. FVM virtualizes Windows file system, registry, kernel object, and network communication.
XVMSocket is a Linux Kernel Module that provides a new socket family for high throughput (40-70 times better than TCP/IP sockets) between applications running on different guest Linux VMs on the same Xen system. No changes to Xen or Linux required.
VMI-Linux is a virtualization interface for Linux with the goal of introducing cross hypervisor compatibility, so a single Linux kernel can run unmodified on L4, VMware, Xen and other hypervisors, as well as native hardware, with excellent performance.

The user-mode kernel port is a port of the Linux kernel which runs in a set of processes. The result is a user-mode virtual machine and a kernel which can be debugged and developed using all of the usual process-level tools.
