Trn is "Threaded Read News", the text-mode news reader that was originally based on Larry Wall's rn. Version 4.0 includes the ability to open multiple news sources at the same time, improved newsgroup and option interaction, and lots more.

newsfish is a batch USENET news reader. Given a list of newsgroups and a set of egrep-style filters for each newsgroup, newsfish scans unread articles, applies the appropriate filters to them, and saves all matching articles into mbox-style files.

A multithreaded NNTP transport designed to transfer Usenet articles as quickly as possible between a local server (supports INN, s-news and sn) and multiple remote servers, with score-based killfiling.

BasicNews is a simple news (NNTP) server for Linux. It's meant to be used as an internal server (eg. as a company news server, or private NNTP server, etc). BasicNews is not able to exchange posts with other servers, as it is designed to run on a leaf site. Keeping it simple allowed me to create an easy to install NNTP server, with no maintenance burden. BasicNews supports authentication of clients, both via internal flat files and via LDAP.

FlameBin is a binary file downloader for usenet. It supports multiple servers, simultaneous file downloads and other common usenet binary downloader features. An advantage over other binary downloaders is that it is cross-platform.

Korallenriff is a program that collects input from different network sources and stores their data into one database. For example, it can receive POP3 mail or can fetch NNTP groups and store the received messages in a database.

The MSN Compatibility Daemon allows the use of any mail and news software on servers requiring the Microsoft Secure Password Authentication Protocol. It handles the authentication and then serves as a proxy between the server and the client software.

The newssnarf software is a sample extension of the popular "dsniff" package in that it will automatically track and log NNTP connections by USENET group and article number.
