You list files hundreds of times a day. Why spend your time squinting at black and white text? exa is an improved file lister with more features and better defaults. It uses colours to distinguish file types and metadata. It knows about symlinks, extended attributes, and Git. And it’s small, fast, and just one single binary. Different types of file and data will be coloured differently, and the user and group columns will be highlighted for the current user. exa can display a file’s extended attributes, as well as standard filesystem information such as the inode, the number of blocks, and a file’s various dates and times. exa queries files in parallel, giving you performance on par with ls. Not only is the standard tree tool built-in, but it’ll show you your files’ information alongside the hierarchy. View the staged and unstaged status of every file, right there in the standard view. Also works in tree view for a high-level overview of your repository.

Syncdrome is a standalone tool that creates a comprehensive catalog of files from your personal hard drives. It enables rapid keyword searches, delivering results in a style similar to web search engines. When a drive is connected, you can directly open files with your system’s default applications. The application lets you designate a working folder for storing the file catalog, which can even be located on a cloud storage service like Dropbox or Google Drive for easy access from any device. With an intuitive interface, Syncdrome also provides a Navigator for exploring your synchronized drives, a Bookmark system to save your favorite files with comments, and a Folder Sync feature to keep directories consistent between locations. Additionally, its File Name Cleaner allows you to apply custom patterns and substitution rules to modify file names efficiently.

GCSF is a virtual filesystem that allows users to mount their Google Drive account locally and interact with it as a regular disk partition. GCSF requires the stable branch of the Rust programming language, which can be installed following the instructions on rustup.rs. Unlike traditional LSM-tree storage engines, SlateDB writes data to object storage to provide bottomless storage capacity, high durability, and easy replication. SlateDB is an embedded storage engine built as a log-structured merge-tree. Unlike traditional LSM-tree storage engines, SlateDB writes data to object storage (S3, GCS, ABS, MinIO, Tigris, and so on). Leveraging object storage allows SlateDB to provide bottomless storage capacity, high durability, and easy replication. The trade-off is that object storage has a higher latency and higher API cost than local disk. To mitigate high write API costs (PUTs), SlateDB batches writes. Rather than writing every put() call to object storage, MemTables are flushed periodically to object storage as a string-sorted table (SST). The flush interval is configurable. To mitigate write latency, SlateDB provides an async put method.

Easily and securely share files and directories from the command line through a safe, private and encrypted link using a single simple command. xplr is a terminal UI-based file explorer that aims to increase our terminal productivity by being a flexible, interactive orchestrator for the ever-growing awesome command-line utilities that work with the file-system. To achieve its goal, xplr strives to be a fast, minimal and more importantly, hackable file explorer. xplr is not meant to be a replacement for the standard shell commands or the GUI file managers. Rather, it aims to integrate them all and expose an intuitive, scriptable, keyboard-controlled, real-time visual interface, also being an ideal candidate for further integration, enabling you to achieve insane terminal productivity.
