elFinder is an open-source file manager for web, written in JavaScript using jQuery UI. Creation is inspired by the simplicity and convenience of Finder program used in Mac OS X operating system. elFinder 2.1.x is currently actively developed, and recommended version. elFinder 2.0.x is stable version but lacks advanced features. FileReader is a polyfill library combining JavaScript and Flash (SWF) to mimic the HTML5 File API in older browsers (notably Internet Explorer and Safari versions that did not support File API fully). It overlays a transparent Flash SWF over a DOM element to allow users to select files, then exposes a .files attribute etc., so that client-side file reading behaves more like modern standard. It is unmaintained now, since File API support is widespread.
