Monolith is a simple tool that takes two arbitrary binary files and "munges" them together to produce a Mono binaryfile. Monolith can also reconstruct an Element file from a Basis file and a Mono file.

DROID (Digital Record Object Identification) is an automatic file format identification tool. It is the first in a planned series of tools developed by The National Archives under the umbrella of its PRONOM technical registry service.
[2013-01-24] The binary download of the latest version of DROID has now been moved to The National Archives website: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/information-management/projects-and-work/droid.htm
The source code for the latest version of DROID remains available via Github: http://digital-preservation.github.com/droid/

Defuddle is a data translation engine that supports mapping arbitrary ASCII and binaryfile formats to a data model defined in XML Schema in a manner similar to, but not compliant with the Data Format Description Language (http://www.ogf.org/dfdl/).

A shell command (binary executable) allowing the manipulation of the extended attributes of a file. Extended attributes allow the arbitrary association of name:data (i.e., key-value) pairs with file system objects.
Compares 2 binary files for minor differences/copy errors
FCB compares two files byte-by-byte. Files may be regular files or any kind of devices, pipes, etc. and one can be stdin. You can specify an offset if one file has a header.
Usage: fcb <File1> <File2> [-h0,1] [-p0,1] [-v0,1,2,3] [-b0,1] [-q0,1]...
Simple command-line file splitter. Split a (binary) file into a given number of slices, or slices of a given size. Output files are automatically numbered, and can be concatenated ("copy", "cat") to recover the original file. Large files supported.
This is intended to be a program for Linux, Mac OS X and Windows using the QT API, to manage and transfer from the computer to the PSP homebrew binary files, savegame backups, video and audio files.
This project offers 3 basic tools for manipulating binary files: 1) flexible hexdump 2) hexencoder that reads a binaryfile and applies provided binary changes at given offsets and 3) a binary compare that gives summary of ranges where files differ
ebsdiff creates a binary patch file using the bsdiff format. The enhancements to bsdiff are that it stores an MD5 hash of the original file (preventing accidental patching of the wrong file) and can limit the memory it uses while creating the patch file.
Binary XML is java library.
Major feature of library is document encoder/decoder which
helps to store DOM model in binary format and retrive DOM
model back. Encoded file size extremely small (in about 10
times relatively to original) .

ytnef is a program to work with procmail to decode TNEF streams (winmail.dat attachments) like those created with Outlook. Unlike other similar programs, it can also create vCalendar/vCard entries from meeting requests, address cards, and task entries.
Numerically estimate an efficiency of code construction algorithms. Randomly generate n binary words of length m with minimum Hamming distance d and create a prefix code (= retrieval tree) from them. Based on PhD work.
It is possible to upload SMS text messages from a Nokia mobile phone to your PC using Nokia's connectivity suite. These messages are saved in a (useless) .vmg file format. Nokia SMS Reader will compile these files into an Excel sheet (sorted).
